In this episode of my series “What Makes This Movie Great?”, we’ll discuss why Charlie Chaplin’s “Modern Times” is a relevant movie for today, even though it was released in 1936. Even the hit 2019 movie “Joker” liberally quotes from it.

Chaplin’s great movie is about individuals getting lost within a vast urban society, a world of machines, factories, mobs, harsh legal systems, and poverty. Chaplin condemns a lot about the Great Depression-era, while trying to entertain and inspire his audience. This is the last movie featuring his very famous Little Tramp character, and it is a great finale for him.
